Synod of Bishops 2018: Young People, the Faith and Vocational Discernment

Everywhere in the western world the question is asked: What about our young people? If they don’t retain the faith of their parents and grandparents, what will become of them? What will become of the Church?

Pope Francis has called for a Synod of Bishops to meet in Rome in October 2018 on the topic of Young People, the Faith and Vocational Discernment. A preparatory document was circulated to all bishops around the world with the request to have as many people as possible read the document, reflect on it, and send their bishop a summary of their responses to the reflection questions in the document. To this end, Archbishop Pettipas asks every organization in the Archdiocese of Grouard-McLennan – and all individuals who wish to do likewise – to read over the document (it’s only 30 pages), discuss it, and send your reflections to him. He will then send a synopsis of your responses to the committee that is planning the Synod.

Find the links to the Papal Letter to Young People and the Young People, the Faith and Vocational Discernment: Preparatory document on the home page of the Archdiocesan website: or pick up a hard copy located in the foyer of the church.

Please submit your responses to Lauri Friesen at or mail to Lauri Friesen c/o Archdiocese of Grouard-McLennan, before Friday 15 September 2017.

Thanks to You All

Greetings to all my dear friends of St. Mary's Parish who prayed that my smashed femur would heal. The x-rays 3 months after surgery showed no new bone growth and no healing. Some people thought I would be in a wheelchair for life, and that is when I asked you to pray for new bone growth to knit the shards together. One year later our prayers have been answered. My femur is healed! I will still need a cane for a while. With grateful prayers, God reward you.
